Phone Salesman Amazes Crowd with his Singing

I believe some of you might have seen this person on the "Britain's Got Talent" show before. It was in 2007. I admit I haven’t seen till today. Today, I was really blown away witnessed his singing.

I came to know this video from a friend. He introduced this video as “Don’t judge the Book from its Cover”. .

Multi-tasking is NOT good

I believe many people will comment to this topic as “not right”, because, we still feel that multi-tasking is a kind of act to accomplish more than one tasks simultaneously. So, in other words, if one can do many things at a time, things will virtually be completed at the same time, which means shorter total time. More completed tasks in shorter times equates to more efficient.

However, there is hidden cost in the “multi-tasking” act. Scientific studies have revealed that “multi-tasking” equates to “more time lost”. How could that be?

Whether people toggle between browsing the Web and using other computer programs, talk on cell phones while driving, pilot jumbo jets or monitor air traffic, they're using their "executive control" processes -- the mental CEO -- found to be associated with the brain's prefrontal cortex and other key neural regions such as the parietal cortex. These interrelated cognitive processes establish priorities among tasks and allocate the mind's resources to them. "For each aspect of human performance -- perceiving, thinking and acting -- people have specific mental resources whose effective use requires supervision through executive mental control," says Meyer.

So, when looking into multi-tasking, it’s not really multi-tasking. It’s actually task-switching. This means, in our brains, it’s deciding on what to be performed at the particular time, while other tasks are in queue (we are actually having side thought about other tasks, but not performing them yet). When we decided to switch to another task, there’s a time-lost and efforts in switching from one concentration to another unrelated task. And it often takes longer time to switch to another more complicated task.

Maybe you want to say you are making a call while driving. They are two tasks at the same time. Well, actually, our brain is working hard in switching tasks in split seconds to perform the two. Virtually, can’t notice the switching, and consider as two tasks simultaneously.
Well, studies have also shown that making phone calls while driving (even on hands-free) will increase traveling time. Don’t you think so? You may want to try (not advisable). Nevertheless, even talking to passengers while driving will increase traveling time.

*Rule activation itself takes significant amounts of time, several tenths of a second -- which can add up when people switch back and forth repeatedly between tasks. Thus, multitasking may seem more efficient on the surface, but may actually take more time in the end.

I personally agree with this finding. I prefer focusing on a subject and get it done first before doing another unrelated thing. Sequence and prioritize the tasks to be exact. I feel that I can concentrate better and absorb the knowledge from the subject better when really just doing it. Therefore, it comes to time management in the end. How do we manage time to cope with different tasks, such as work, to meet their datelines.

Some findings even said that multi-tasking makes people dumb. Well, it’s a bit strong to say that. I would say, it makes people less skilled at the tasks they are doing. This also equates to lower quality for each task completed through multi-tasking act.
This is related to concentration a person put on the subject. One cannot put full concentration and efforts on a subject when doing or thinking of doing other things.

But one thing for sure for human lives these days is…we can never avoid multi-tasking act. It’s just a matter of how conscious are we towards carrying out the multi-tasks and how much can we avoid it from causing us risks which may follow.

Eyelid Monitoring System

How often do you fall asleep while driving?
This is a very dangerous event to talk about. It causes accident if one really falls asleep while driving.

So, Toyota, a Japanese car maker, has developed a new system to monitor whether the driver is falling asleep.

This system is to be called Eye-Monitoring System.

It’s an enhancement system to be equipped in the car added to its Pre-Crash Safety System. What does it do? It monitors driver’s eye-lids.
This eye-monitoring system uses monitoring-camera, places in front of the driver, to capture driver’s eyes in real-time. The image processing computer, connected to the camera, will determine how wide or narrow the eyes are opened, based on the position of the upper and lower eye lids. This information will then be further processed and trigger different required actions or alerts to be performed by the vehicle. In this way, the chances of accident due to sleepiness can be reduced.

This development follows Toyota's existing face-monitoring technology--available on the Lexus LS600h--which tracks the orientation of the driver's face and sounds a warning if it detects a sustained period of inattention.

The eye-monitoring system is an interesting idea. Japan, Toyota, has announced that this system will be launched “in the near future”.

No Petrol Day – 24th January 2008

Do you think the petrol price is expensive? Do you hope for a reduction in petrol price? Will it ever going to be cheaper? If any, how to make the petrol price drop?

I personally feel that there’s no way the petrol price will reduce. It’s been increasing non-stop since long time ago. However, I do hope that the price can be reduced.

Why?

Many reasons to mention. And actually many pros in contrast to cons as well.

Never to forget that the natural resources are in a decline. Therefore, ways to maintain natural resources, are normally highlighted by environmentalist, scientists, etc, those dedicated their lives to natures.

Today, I received a forward email from my colleague. Titled “Don't buy petrol on 24th Jan 2008”. I decided to share this email to everyone since it’s no harm. The email content is as follows:

Fuel Cell Battery for Mobile Phone

Do you know what type of battery is being used in your mobile phone?
In fact, there are few types which are commonly used in mobile phones. The most commonly used nowadays is the Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery.

There are few types of rechargeable batteries. They are nickel-cadmium (NiCd), Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH), Lithium Ion (Li-ion), Lithium ion Polymer, etc. Different types with different characteristics. Most hobbyists, such as those playing remote control cars, will know more about rechargeable batteries as they use batteries heavily.

Recently, Angstrom Power, a Canadian firm, introduced the world’s first mobile phone fuel cell that fits into a normal mobile phones, claiming that the cell lasts twice as long as conventional batteries.

This new battery technology has been integrated and tested in Motorola’s SLVR L7.
Results show that it gives better battery life and require very short recharge time of just 10 minutes.

THE BATTERY TAKES JUST 10 MINUTES TO CHARGE…!!!

Wow…this is really impressive.

This battery is hydrogen fuel cell. It’s a Micro Hydrogen™ technology patented by Angstrom Power. It uses hydrogen as fuel and taking oxygen from the air to create chemical-reaction. The byproduct produced by the Fuel Cell is environmental friendly, which is Water vapour (H2O).

Interesting enough is its physical flexibility which is able to be fitted into the mobile phones without altering the shape or size of the phone (as integrated and tested with the Motorola L7).

It's said that the technology could be ready for commercial use in 2010.

World’s Cheapest Car

TATA Motors, a car manufacturer company in India, has unveiled its new model, named ‘NANO’.

It’s a small size car (length = 3.1m, width = 1.5m and height = 1.6m). It is rear-wheel driven, by all-aluminium, two-cylinder, 623cc, 33ps, multi-point fuel injection petrol engine.

Ahem. You might want to read the second paragraph above again. Please. Yes. I would like to highlight here: TWO-CYLINDER. It’s the first time for a car to be pushed to roll by a two-cylinder gasoline engine.

Well, it’s claimed that it has the necessary safety features. And it is having exhaust emission comply with emission standards.

So, how cheap it is?
It’s going to be sold in India at the price of 100,000 rupee, or around US$2600.

Smallest Laser Projector

Small but show big.

Announced by Microvision Inc., it has come up with the world’s smallest laser projector. It’s the size of a PDA. Convenient enough to be carried around in shirt or pants pocket.

No more bulky stationary projector. Sounds great.

The resolution produced is pretty high. It uses three lasers: red, green, and blue colours, to project a WVGA (848 by 480, roughly DVD resolution) image to any surface. More interesting is that it doesn’t have any lens for its projecting focus. It projects images out clearly onto the wall without lens. It can display a two foot diagonal image from a distance of two feet. And 5 foot diagonal image from a distance of 5 feet.

It’s a plug and play device. This laser projector can be connected to any device with video/image output, to have the pictures to be projected at large scale onto the wall or any display screen.

Another interesting point to this new technology is its power source. It can be powered from a built-in rechargeable battery. The battery can even be recharged via USB power lines.

How about the common heating concerns that we always find in the currently available projectors in the market?
Well, this laser projector doesn’t need any cooling fan. It just won’t get heated. What an amazingly cool technology here.

Take a closer look at the projection module housed in the laser projector, it’s small. Smaller than a thumb. Mobile phone industries are now eying at this projector module to be implemented into their mobile phones. It won’t be long for us to see mobile phones with built-in projector. The mobile phone will be able to display images on the wall, at bigger scale than the display screen on the mobile phone itself.

It’s saying that the projector should be available in the market later this year.

Oh...by the way, what's it called?

Microvision calls it "PicoP".

Mathematical Analog Clock

What do you see when u look at an analog clock?
You will find at least 2 needles, which turn with times. One indicating minute and another indicating hour. There might be the third needle indicating second. We will also see the face of the dial with numerical numbers around the dial. The numbers are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12.

Ok, that’s what you find in a normal analog clock.

So now, let me introduce to you a clock which doesn’t have the normal numbers as mentioned.

A man survived from 47-storey fall

Well, my jaw fell, and mouth opened wide when I heard about this. Speechless...!!!

This man’s name is Alcides Moreno, a 37-year-old Ecuadorean immigrant. A window cleaner. He had this fall on 7th December 2007, from the roof of a Manhattan skyscraper, New York. He’s now awake, talking to his family and expected to walk again.

According to statistics, anyone falling from 10th storey building should not survive. However, this is a miracle for one to survive after falling from 47th floor.

Doctors at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center have announced that his recovery has been astonishing.

His brother, Edgar Moreno, was together in the fall as well. But he did not survive.
Alcides Moreno, when arrived at the hospital after the fall, received intensive treatment from Doctors, tried to rescue him. He has both legs and his right arm and wrist broken in several places. He had severe injuries to his chest, his abdomen and his spinal column.

His brain was bleeding. It was critical hour.
Incredible enough, his head injuries were relatively minor for a fall victim. He also managed to avoid a paralysing spinal cord injury, even though he suffered a shattered vertebra.

Amazing amazing amazing…!!!

Really hard to believe anything like this can happen.

The victim does regularly saying that “it’s just not his time”.

UPGRADE FROM BOYFRIEND TO HUSBAND (joke)




This is a very nice email communication. A complain from a user to an IT support. It makes me laugh like anything.

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a slow down in the overall performance, particularly in the flower, gifts and jewellery applications that had operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 un-installed many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, but installed undesirable programs such as Formula One 5.0, NBA 3.0 and World Cup 2.0.

And now Conversation 8.0 no longer runs and House Cleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. I've tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

First keep in mind:
Boyfriend 5.0 is an entertainment package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Try entering the command C:\ I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME and downloadTears 6.2 to install Guilt 3.0.

If all works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewellery 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

But remember, overuse can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Late Night Teh Tarik 6.1.

Late Night 6.1 is a very bad program that will create SnoringLoudly.wav files.

Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother-in-Law 1.0 or reinstall another Boyfriend program. These are not supported applications and will crashHusband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have a limitedmemory and cannot learn new applications quickly.

You might consider additional software to improve memory and performance. I personally recommend Hot Tasty Food 3.0 and Tongkat Ali 6.9.

Yes...this blog entry title is right. There's news saying Mercedes and BMW will be cooperating. They are tying up for something. This might be surprising news to many people. I’m quite surprised myself too.

No…this might not be pleasant news to some people, who are hard core supporters to one of these two car makers. One would not be happy to be merged to another.

Well, let’s see what’s going to happen, and what’s the outcome after they are combined.

Let’s throw our imagination to full load…imagining on how will the look of the vehicle be like when it’s BMW-MERCEDES car…never forget the two great performances…

ATM card eaten by the machine

Unlucky or lucky? That’s the question.

I got my ATM card eaten into the cash machine…!!! Haih…!!! I’m so disappointed to have made this happened.

How did it happen?
Well, I visited an ATM station, and deposited some cash into the machine. It’s New Year, so, I thought wanted to have some input into my saving account on New Year day. So, after deposited the cash into that machine, I took the transaction slip, and walked out from the machine, folded the slip, and put it into my wallet. So, what’s wrong with that? Seems nothing wrong, right? But no, I forgot the ATM card. It’s my ATM card.

When I had that thought flashed into my mind, I turned my head to see the machine, and saw my card stuck out from the slot. There was also beeping sound beeping earlier, which I didn’t hear. I quickly ran towards the machine, to try to grab my card out, but I was too late. I saw my card being pulled into the machine just a split second before I reach it. Haih…!!! Gone…!!! I tried to press this press that at the machine, tried to get my card out, but to no sign that it can be taken out. There’s no option available onscreen for the card return. So, the only option for me is to call the bank customer service line. After got through all the long length recorded voice answering machine of the customer service line, got connected to a personnel. Reported my case, and verified my personal details, the instruction I got from the bank personnel was to visit the same brunch of ATM that ate my card again tomorrow or any other day. This is because it’s holiday today, and so no one works. It’s new year. No one can attend to my matter. Great! Luckily there’s someone answered my call and recorded my report. They have temporary blocked my card from any usage, until I attended the brunch myself to collect my card back. So now, I have to take a day off from work, to visit this bank to collect my card.

So, back to my earlier question. Am I unlucky, or lucky? Let me explain.

Unlucky: because I was so forgetful; forget to pull out my card immediately after completed my transaction. Which caused this experience. The result is, I have to waste money on phone call I made to the bank, and also will have to take a day off to attend to the bank to get my card back

Lucky: because I’m relieved that the card is being protected from being used by any unauthorized person. This is because I made the report immediately after the case, and the bank did blocked the card.

This is a very important experience I had.

Lesson learned: Always make your report to the bank immediately after facing anything wrong with your bank transaction. The bank will help to protect your properties.

It’s a very good new year experience I had for the year 2008.

New Year Eve Ball





What’s this? It’s not Football. It’s a New Year Eve Ball…!!!

It’s not small. It’s big. Very big. and it emits light. Bright light. Not just simple light, but coloured lights. More then 16 million colours. Wow…!!! Spectacular…!!!

This ball is placed in New York City. It’s placed on top of a tall flag pole, and will be released to slide down the pole slowly when the clock ticked at midnight, or at the dot of 00:00 on the 1st January 2008. The ball takes 60-second to slide down a 23.5-meter (77-feet) flagpole.

2008 New Year Eve Ball is a newly designed ball. It’s an energy saving light ball. The lights are emitted from 9,576 energy-efficient Light Emitting Diotes (LEDs).

This is the 100th anniversary for the Time Square. Therefore, the ball is redesigned with new technology to celebrate the 100th anniversary.

This ball is brighter than the last years (two times brighter), and uses as much energy as 10 toasters.
